The can reminds me of how spam is packaged, so breakfast was what first came to mind in how to enjoy this. I sliced it, fried it on both sides, and made a breakfast burrito with one of them, as shown in one of my photo’s before I folded the tortilla. There’s sort of gravy in it, so I found that it wasn’t all that great in a burrito, so I used the rest of the slices to make in a sandwich, which was really good. So just as the name implies, this makes for a good lunch. It would probably be good with rice and a fried “egg” too, like from Just Egg. I’m not pleased at all with the shape of the can. I don’t know if spam is like this because I’ve never bought spam, but I had a really hard time opening the lid all the way. Because of its elongated shape, I couldn’t use my hand as leverage to open it all the way, unlike a traditional round can. And since I couldn’t open it all the way, as shown in my second photo, and since this is one big block, I had a hard time getting it out. I ended up cutting it down the middle and then prying one side out before the other. Even though #veganisnotscary when it comes to food, I was afraid of cutting myself opening this. I would love any tips because I have another flavor of this that I haven’t opened yet. #luncheon #veganmeat

Vegan spam?! Yes! Spam was never a big part of my childhood, but I know it's a popular cheap protein in the Midwest and South Pacific. Spam was originally made in a town in southern Minnesota. Since it is compact and shelf stable, it was often included in American soldiers' rations, and that is how it was introduced to the South Pacific. Now it's super popular in that part of the world! These "Spam Jobs" in the last picture are a childhood cabin favorite from @jonok's family. I've heard him talk about these so much over the past three years, so I'm so happy he was able to share this recipe with me after he found this spam-like product at Walmart. It's made with baguette, half of a can of unMEAT, some Daiya oat milk cheddar, one bell pepper, and one yellow onion. Everything but the baguette is blended together in a food processor. Then the paste is spread on the baguette pieces and broiled in the oven to brown up and melt the cheese. It doesn't sound super appetizing, but I really enjoyed them! It's a great snack to feed a lot of people quickly and cheaply. For a vegan meat, this really doesn't have much protein at only 5g per serving! It's quite high in saturated fat and sodium as well. It's a nice nostalgic treat though! I do love than it comes in a tin so there's no plastic and it's fully recyclable! #spam #veganmeat #veganpork #cannedfood #vpantry #quickandeasy #vegancooking #veganrecipes #walmart #soyprotein
