Vegan spam?! Yes! Spam was never a big part of my childhood, but I know it's a popular cheap protein in the Midwest and South Pacific. Spam was originally made in a town in southern Minnesota. Since it is compact and shelf stable, it was often included in American soldiers' rations, and that is how it was introduced to the South Pacific. Now it's super popular in that part of the world!
These "Spam Jobs" in the last picture are a childhood cabin favorite from @jonok's family. I've heard him talk about these so much over the past three years, so I'm so happy he was able to share this recipe with me after he found this spam-like product at Walmart. It's made with baguette, half of a can of unMEAT, some Daiya oat milk cheddar, one bell pepper, and one yellow onion. Everything but the baguette is blended together in a food processor. Then the paste is spread on the baguette pieces and broiled in the oven to brown up and melt the cheese. It doesn't sound super appetizing, but I really enjoyed them! It's a great snack to feed a lot of people quickly and cheaply.
For a vegan meat, this really doesn't have much protein at only 5g per serving! It's quite high in saturated fat and sodium as well. It's a nice nostalgic treat though! I do love than it comes in a tin so there's no plastic and it's fully recyclable!

Whoa, you learn something new every day! I had no idea Spam was from Minnesota. My mom used to fix Spam musubi as our portable travel food (I hated it lol) but I would’ve never thought of making it into a pâté!
