It's always so fun to see a show at the Dakota and get some fancy bites. I was so sad to see that they didn't have the braided cabbage on the menu any more. The vegan options felt much more limited this time. I was really happy to see a vegan dessert though. I love that this pannacotta has peach in it. It's a great choice for a summer dessert! The Dakota seems to always have one vegan dessert option, which I greatly appreciate! The last time I went it was a key lime bar, but I wasn't able to get it. This time I made sure to order this early enough in the performance! This apple tart paired so wonderfully with the Charlie Brown Christmas set. It is made beautifully with super thin slices of apple in a crumbly gluten free pie crust. It's topped with coconut vanilla ice cream. The ice cream is definitely needed because otherwise the dish is pretty dry. It has just a touch of cinnamon, but I think I could use more. Even though the pic crust is dry, I really loved the texture and buttery taste. I love this dish from Dakota! They really work magic on a slice of cabbage! This braised cabbage is served on a legume puree and is topped with crispy southern furikake (sesame seeds, nori, puffed rice). I've reviews it before, but they presented it in a nice way this time and we got a table with better lighting, so I have to talk about it again! The cabbage is a light entree, but the legume puree adds more substance. I feel like the puree is the best part of the dish! This grain bowl is a filling a nutritious option for a live music venue. It's made of quinoa, chickpeas, smashed and marinated cucumber, roasted squash, and cauliflower dressed in green goddess dressing topped with fresh spinach. Green goddess is such a great dressing flavor. This is a nice creamy dish packed with veggies. It's served cold, so it would be better on a summer night. I got to see a jazz trio perform the music of Vince Guaraldi, including some songs from Charlie Brown Christmas. It was so cozy, classy, and festive! It's been about a year since I've been to the Dakota, so they've added a couple things to the menu. I was happy to see a vegan option for the focaccia sets! I love warm olives and high quality olive oil! The focaccia was unlike other focaccia I've had. It was almost cale-like. The crust was really incredible as you'd expect from focaccia. The inner part of the great was moister than I expected and almost like a cake sponge. I enjoyed it! The olives and oil were served with preserved lemon peel. I'm having an unlucky streak with choosing cocktails! This stood out to me because it uses Vikre Distillery Co. juniper gin, ginger, cucumber, and basil. The issue is it also has their house quick brine. I need to stop choosing drinks with brine! It was immediately odd when I took a sip because there was no carbonation. Some soda water would have really helped in my opinion. It's just a bit odd to have gin without bubbles. The ginger, cucumber, and basil all sounded good, and I could taste them! But the saltiness of the brine really overpowered it. Cabbage? As an entree? It works! This jazz club's menu is very clearly chef-driven. This dish especially showcases the thoughtfulness and creativity. The menu lists legume purée, miso, and southern furikake. I think the thought behind this dish was to be somewhat of a fish-like dish. The cabbage texture pulled apart in layers like some fish would. The miso and furikake gave it those tastes I associate with seafood, without making it overtly fishy. The furikake was a really good idea and gave the dish some crunch that I appreciated. The star for me though was the legume pureé! It was a really delicious and savory addition to the dish. I actually liked the slightly grainy texture and the taste of the legumes. I wish I was able to get a better picture of this dish, but you can only do so much in a jazz club! This dish was $24. This was the dish I was most excited about when I researched the menu. It's made with seasonal vegetables, so each time you go it may be different. Too bad for me, this time they used the one vegetable I'm not the biggest fan of - beets! It was still really good, just a bit messy to eat. The baguette was really delicious. They drizzled olive oil and salt over it and that was really the perfect touch for me. I also love anything with microgreens, so I was happy to see those on top. It's also served with some tiny pickles on the side which I loved. This dish is $22 which is one of the more expensive appetizers. As a live music lover, it's incredible that I haven't gone to the Dakota Jazz Club yet! @jonok won tickets to see Ravi Coltrane (yes, that Coltrane family!), so it was the perfect opportunity to check out the venue. I was happy to see they have vegan options in each menu category: appetizers, entrees, mains, and even a dessert! These Cajun potatoes sure had some heat to them! They were roasted perfectly with flavor-packed Cajun seasoning. I wish they had a vegan aioli or some other dipping sauce, because they did feel a bit dry. They're still a nice side if you're craving potatoes since their traditional french fries aren't vegan.
