I went a bit crazy at Sprouts today, cuz there were so many amazing vegan products!! Nothing more exciting to me than trying new vegan stuff. This icecream was calling me, as pistachio has always been one of my favourite flavours. This icecream is to die for… so creamy, rich, smooth and very nutty! This Sicilian Pistachio ice cream by Van Leeuwan was good but not the best I’ve had when it comes to pistachio ice cream. I realized I prefer pistachio ice creams to have little chunks of pistachio throughout, which this didn’t have. The flavor was good but not quite bold enough in pistachio flavor. Aside from these critiques, I do appreciate the more pure & shorter list of ingredients Van Leeuwen ice creams include. This ice cream is made from both oat milk & coconut cream, and the texture and creaminess never disappoints. I really do like this brands vegan line of ice cream and hope they will eventually consider going 100% vegan and embrace the cruelty-free life. The last time I was in Brooklyn, NY I got to visit the yellow truck that Van Leeuwen ice cream was born out of, and I still fondly remember the #vegan Banana Bread ice cream cone I had— it was incredible! Love it 😍 I’m a sucker for stories and think they make good things taste even better. Case in point, this Sicilian pistachio ice cream that uses pistachios grown in Bronte, an area that’s in the foothills of Mount Etna, an active volcano 🌋 in Sicily! Mythical allure aside, this ice cream is delicious! It’s made of natural ingredients including oat milk and cane sugar. It has a really elegant and creamy texture, tastes wonderful, not too sweet and smells just as good as it tastes! Go Van Leeuwen! So happy to see this ice cream truck from my home town NYC make its way to Singapore, and even better that they have so many vegan flavors available! Is it terrible if I think this beloved ice cream brand is just not that great? Was hoping for pistachio pieces but this is smooth ice cream, a little icy at that. Not bad, but wouldnt buy again.
