Sometimes you try a new food, and it’s simply love at first bite — that was me with this #tofu! It was a super thoughtful gift from @beckyyy that I devoured and then forgot to review while she was taking a break from the platform. Now it’s time to share! #tofulover#soy#organic
So, a little backstory, I’m actually a reformed tofu hater who wouldn’t touch the stuff for over a decade. What changed things for me was discovering that tofu could be anything: there really are texture and flavor combinations to suit any taste. This one was exceptionally firm, with a strong #smoked flavor — two wins in my book! The smokiness and dry, firm texture make it an excellent stand-in for smoked salmon (not lox; like the drier, more cooked version.) I really enjoyed it in thin slices on a bagel with chive spread; it was also a welcome addition to salad and a poke-style bowl.
It’s really neat that this #smokedtofu is #shelfstable. Each package comes with two vacuum-sealed bricks, so it can be portioned out — a great innovation for emergency food/limited space situations. I haven’t seen this tofu “out in the wild” near me but would purchase it in a heartbeat if I found it! Thank you, Becky!

veganvanman Nice kyu! I wasn't so keen on the texture myself, but realised it can be real tasty if done right. I tend to use paper towel when i take it out of the package, wrap it around the block of tofu and press down a little and it soaks up some of the water that it may retain, firms up a bit nicer.3 likesReply
