Always pleased to find a vegan choice at these bustling public spaces. Tate Britain offers cold and hot vegan options. Because it’s so busy you can be unlucky and hit an empty shelf, but today I was pleased to land on this bun.
It was a little sweet for my taste buds. I think it was the bread - sugar is listed in the ingredients.
The filling was a very nice mix of fresh grated carrot, red chilli, ginger and rocket, also sweet tasting agave syrup and my favourite element, ground nuts. I think they were hazelnuts and almonds. The protein rich crunch was a treat.
These ready prepared sandwiches often suffer from over refrigeration causing them to become pretty flavourless. This one faired a lot better and the ginger kick survived, the carrot was crisp and naturally sweet.
You would probably end up with longer queues but I do hanker for the days when there were speedy, skilful sandwich makers creating a bespoke sandwich from a selection of fillings.
If anyone knows a place like that in London please point me in that direction 😹
