This wrap was the only vegan savoury choice apart from salad in the Djanogly cafe. I visit the Tate galleries regularly and wish they had more to offer in refreshments. The wrap was average. The wrap looked pretty and appetising as did the packed filling, but it was all pretty tasteless too. I think all their food suffers from being prepared and chilled the day before. The staff member asked if I wanted salad - yes please - then proceeded to award me a miniscule dump of a few leaves and a squirt of dressing. You pay a lot for this, I think - £10.95 🙁 The cafe area is pleasant and spacious with lots of art on the walls and there’s an outside seating area which was nice in the sunshine. The Tate’s saving grace is the art of course. We had gone to see the Edward Burra exhibition, full of vibrant, imaginative depictions of 1920s/1930s life. Always pleased to find a vegan choice at these bustling public spaces. Tate Britain offers cold and hot vegan options. Because it’s so busy you can be unlucky and hit an empty shelf, but today I was pleased to land on this bun. It was a little sweet for my taste buds. I think it was the bread - sugar is listed in the ingredients. The filling was a very nice mix of fresh grated carrot, red chilli, ginger and rocket, also sweet tasting agave syrup and my favourite element, ground nuts. I think they were hazelnuts and almonds. The protein rich crunch was a treat. These ready prepared sandwiches often suffer from over refrigeration causing them to become pretty flavourless. This one faired a lot better and the ginger kick survived, the carrot was crisp and naturally sweet. You would probably end up with longer queues but I do hanker for the days when there were speedy, skilful sandwich makers creating a bespoke sandwich from a selection of fillings. A sweet to go with coffee, it’s not overly sweet, and really quite moist on this occasion. In all enjoyable. Tate Brit’s well worth the visit of course, and the cafe’s a nice, friendly place to rest and grab a quick bite and coffee in between galleries. They only a handful of vegan options, including the soup of the day(but do ask), a sandwich, and perhaps one main dish. One cake as well. Vegan dishes are labeled. Seasonal menu though, so worth checking with them. Tate also has their own range of coffees carefully curated, which is worth looking exploring: single-origin coffees, and they focus on promoting gender equality and empowering coffee producers. Simple comfortable area with plenty of seating, depending on when you’re there it might be quiet enough. light, refreshing and tasty (what a great combo!) but for a sandwich it’s not the cheapest. (gallery prices perhaps). I liked the pickles and the salad as well, just wish there was a bit more. #sandwich Cafe on the lower floor of the Tate Britain. Hot food, range of sandwiches, drinks and desserts. They had a few vegan options on this occasion, including this sandwich, a wrap, the soup of the day, and a main (i forgot). I believe their menu changes seasonally, let’s hope vg options are always there. Not the cheapest place but if you’re at the Tate this might be your one option. For me, it’s always a treat to visit one of the London galleries, then go to the cafe for a nice drink and maybe something to eat while you mull over the art works you’ve just seen. 🎨 At Tate Britain the spacious cafe opens on to the gardens and in the warm weather we’re having it was lovely to sit outside under the shady plane trees. 🍃 I had a cup of breakfast tea with this very pleasant lemon sponge cake. It was light in texture with a filling of lemon butter cream and the same frosting on top. What look like poppyseeds were mixed through the butter cream which stop it being sickly. We shared the generous wedge of cake which is around £4. 🍋 #ditchdairy #vegancake #ilovebeingavegan
