This massive cinnamon roll was to die for. Each roll was absolutely stuffed with cinnamon and sugar, the dough so fluffy and soft. Topped with this lemony icing that added a much needed zest and a little sweetness. Somehow managed to eat the whole thing! #sweettooth

This rice bowl is just like the bao, but on rice instead of in a bun! The tofu is juicy and soft in the middle, crispy on the edges coated in this sweet sticky sauce. The relish is super tart and salty and delicious. I added some Lao gan Ma and it was a bomb dinner!

For dessert I went with a simple coconut bun. The Oat milk bread was nice and fluffy and the sweet coconut filling was so yum.

I’m always amazed by the texture of lions mane! It was so juicy on the inside and so incredibly crunchy on the outside. The flavour of the breading was really nice. The spicy cucumber, slaw, cilantro and sesame paired with it so well. Every bite was a great sensation of textures.

This bao was so yummy. The mushroom is delicately fried and so crispy. The slaw is a nice fresh balance to the fried. The bun itself is perfectly made and good sized portion. Could eat this all the time !

This tofu belly bao was incredible. They used softer and more squishy tofu to mimic the texture of pork belly and coated it in this sweet and smoky sauce that was so yummy. The gai choy relish was tart and salty and super delicious. And the cilantro and crushed soy nut were great accompaniments. The bun itself was super fluffy and pillowy. Perfection!

I loooove Chinese style blistered long beans. And they did them sooo well. I’ve never had this dry like this before as they’re normally in a sauce, and I was skeptical at first. But they were amazing!! Lovely crunch and the fried chili and fried shallots were amazing.

Wow ! Delicious ! The tofu is smothered in some kind of smoky bbq sauce that gives this dish a really unique flavor. The bun itself was perfectly made . Good sized potion .

I’ve been wanting to try this bao restaurant in downtown Ottawa for a while. Not fully vegan but a decent amount of vegan options, all of which were delicious. These dumplings were amazing! Nice thin wrapper and filled with scallions, tofu and mushrooms. The peanut chili sauce was divine. Perfect little bite.

This was my favourite bao I tried on Gongfu’s full vegan menu (available every Wednesday). I will say nothing tops the braised tofu “belly” bao that’s a mainstay on their everyday menu, but this was incredibly enjoyable. I liked the texture of the TVP chunks and the chilli garlic flavour delightful. The squash complements it perfectly and the cucumber adds a lovely crunch. All in all, I’m so happy I got to try the expanded vegan menu because Gongfu Bao never misses. I can’t wait to go on a Wednesday in the future to see what new creations they’ve come up with.

My friend and I shared this dish on vegan night (every Wednesday at Gongfu) and it was a delicious take on pepper-salt tofu! The mushroom chunks were huge, tender, and juicy. There was just the right amount of batter - not overly #sweetdreamsaremadeofgrease, but just enough. The dipping sauce and fried basil are perfect pairings to add a little bit of extra flavour. It was $17 but worth the money IMO - it’s a large portion given how big and meaty each chunk is. Plus lion’s mane mushrooms aren’t exactly cheap. I felt I got good value for my money and was happy to support Gongfu making such an effort to help people eat vegan.
