This black gooey mess exceeded my expectations! This is only my 2nd time trying this

dish (the first time was the meat version some years back and I didn't like it).

The vinegar was rich, sour and savoury. The ingredients were black fungus, mushrooms, dates and some mock meat chunks. The ginger was surprisingly tasty and not fibrous.

I didn't finish the soup and the auntie chided me for wasting it as it's supposedly very nutritious :s Erm auntie, u should have told me earlier!

This is a vegan version of the Chinese dish 猪脚醋. There is no pork in

it of course. The broth is vinegary sweet, as good as any I've tried. The protein in this dish is kidney beans, beancurd skin, and seitan. There's plenty of ginger, orange peel and other herbs flavouring the broth. Goes great with rice.

This dish is in the background of my photo, I didn't take a close up.
