Pastéis De Nata at J. Selby'sIszy's Review (Nov 14, 2024)

Haunted Portugal: 2024 wine dinner with vegan dishes and ghost stories from Portugal . 5th course, served with Quinta La Rosa Tawny Port

I'm glad I saved half of my Francesinha because I needed room for this custard pastry. I was a bit sad to hear they imported these desserts instead of making them in-house. The desserts at these wine dinners tend to be my favorite part. This was still really yummy. It's nice that they torched the top custard a bit like creme brulee. It was also served on a drizzle of caramel which I really loved the flavor of. I was expecting a flaky pastry with a creamy center, but this ended up being chewy throughout. Nice taste, but it just didn't feel as fresh as I was hoping.

We of course had to pair the last course with a port. I'm not the biggest fan of ports or any dessert wine really, but the one they served was fine. It wasn't too sickly sweet like some dessert wines can be.
