VEGAN

Live Yum Foods

Being the only vegan in a predominantly non-vegan household, it was quite challenging to get my family to try out some alternatives, but I persisted anyway.

Since ghee (clarified butter) is used rather generously at home, I decided to try out this plant-based ghee by a Bangalore-based startup called Live Yum.

Surprisingly, it has a very similar consistency and taste to its dairy counterpart. So, as an experiment, I took my mom's help and prepared halwa using the plant-based ghee. (Pic 2)

Thankfully, it turned out quite well and it was well received with all my family members!

In conclusion, this is a great alternative to regular ghee and you won't be missing out the taste of your favourite dishes. It commands a premium over the regular, but it is a price worth paying considering there's no cruelty involved. (Pic 3)

pranav546 Me too! The last time I had halwa was years ago and it was nice that I was able to veganize it this time. Thank you. It turned out fairly well actually!1 likeReply

pranav546 Yessss! I'm glad it's available because a worryingly large number of people use the dairy counterpart 😕Reply
lol1409 If it's worth the price, I think I'd buy it for my parents, it's the only thing stopping them from going fully vegan now, other than packaged snacks. Cool halwa! And great that they liked it too! Think you might be well on your way to becoming a chef by the time you get them convinced xD But that's a win-win. 3 likesReply
pranav546 You should give it a try! I'm sure they'd be surprised if you tried making sweets or other dishes using it. Thanks! Definitely xD Started my cooking journey late, but it will be worth it in the long run.1 likeReply
lol1409 Indian desserts take so much labour ☠️ I'll just give it to my mom, she can pour it all over her rice xD 1 likeReply
