Review of Nasi Lemak Cutlet Rice Set at GreenDot - NEX by shawneofthedead

It's not easy to find vegetarian nasi lemak because so many of the original dish's component ingredients are just not vegetarian-friendly. So I've been hoping to try Greendot's version for a while, which I think was pushed out in conjunction with National Day last month.

Now, having tried it, I hope this makes it to their regular menu! It's an immensely appealing mix of very local flavours - from the sweetly spicy sambal to the crunchy 'ikan bilis' and the mini slices of spam (crispy and springy to the bite). The coconut rice is delicately flavoured, which I love - sometimes it gets too overpowering and rich, but this rice remains fluffy and light.

I ordered the nasi lemak with the basic main - a king oyster mushroom cutlet. Adds to the fantastic blend of textures to this dish. You can also switch out the cutlet for rendang (that would be the restaurant's trademark lion mane mushroom rendang, which is vegetarian and not vegan).
