#vegan #veganisnotscary #smallbusiness #supportsmallbusiness #tempeh #tempehsalad #glutenfree I noticed several reviews on abillion have already been done for this restaurant, Nonie’s Restaurant, so I wanted to go there. Coincidentally, it just happened to be across the street from where I had staying. With a sign outside that advertises it offers vegan food, I would automatically give it a try without any doubt. And I’m glad I did. According to the restaurant’s website, it’s “The destination in Boracay for food that is healthy, sustainable, and delicious.” For dinner one night, I ordered the Tempeh Salad. I rarely eat tempeh (only because I’m so unfamiliar with it), so I thought I’d give it a try. It also offered me an opportunity to write another review. Aesthetically, this salad was very pleasing to the eye. It was beautifully presented. But for some reason, I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I had wanted to. It looked better than it tasted. I don’t know if it was the spices in the tempeh, or what? Perhaps it was the tempeh itself. Other dishes that I had ordered at this restaurant were fantastic. So one slightly negative experience will not deter me from returning here if I ever come back to Boracay(which I’d love to). The Tempeh Salad was 380 pesos, or almost $10.00 Canadian. Boracay is more expensive than other Philippine islands and the price of this salad is consistent with that trend. This restaurant is not 100% vegan, but vegans have plenty of options.

#vegan #veganisnotscary #smallbusiness #supportsmallbusiness #sisig #vegansisig #foodmadefromfood I noticed several reviews on abillion have already been done for this restaurant, Nonie’s Restaurant, so I wanted to go there. Coincidentally, it just happens to be across the street from where I’m staying. With a sign outside that advertises it offers vegan food, I will automatically give it a try. And I’m glad I did. My lunch’s main entrée was Vegan Sisig. Sisig is a Filipino dish made from pork jowl and ears (maskara), pork belly, and chicken liver, which is usually seasoned with calamansi, onions, and chili peppers. Frankly, this sounds very gross to me. Thankfully, someone at Nonie’s Restaurant has created a much more palatable vegan version. And it’s incredibly delicious too! This dish is food made from food. It was a mix of red onions, green onions, zucchini, some kind of crumble (which might have included tofu), and a variety of spices. I should have asked what’s in it, but didn’t. A little lemoncito was on the side which when squeezed, it gave a very citrusy kick to this dish. Bread wafers / sticks also accompanied this dish. What a nice touch. I highly recommend it. Very delicious! The vegan dishes at this restaurant make veganism / vegan food very approachable. The Vegan Sisig was 350 pesos, or almost $9.00 Canadian. Boracay is more expensive than other Philippine islands and the price of this smoothie is consistent with that trend. This restaurant is not 100% vegan, but vegans have plenty of options.
