This was not bad and perfect for creating those bigger meals. I made a pasta dish where I added some extras like plant based bacon. 🍝

That’s right, it’s vegan SPAM. Everything from the can, down to the thick gelatinous texture and porky taste, it’s SPAM. Since ditching buying plastic-packaged food more than a year ago, getting my hands on vegan fake meat products has been quite a challenge. So on the very rare occasion I spot tofu or tempeh in a jar, or vegan meat in a can, I pounce on it. This was $4 from my local bulk food store and the last one on the shelf, so I had to get it. I’ve tried the UnMeat brand before in South Korea, but I think this is the first time trying it’s SPAM product. I’ve never had traditional pork SPAM, but I think this is the closest thing you’ll get to it vegan. It’s not completely homogenous and has some grain to it. It does have a kind of pork taste to it, but it loses flavour over time if you cook it for any length such as chopped in a pasta sauce like I did. It grills nicely, so yes it’s best using at as a sandwich meat or a filling for dumplings or ravioli.
I see myself munching on a lot of this product of the Philippines. It's good cooked, and uncooked it's like a tasty vegan pate. Due to the amount of saturated fat, I'll be eating half servings. Interesting to see red yeast rice as an ingredient since that is known to lower LDL cholesterol levels. #PhilippineFriday
