I couldn’t help myself when I heard #tindle had arrived on the shores (or rather

the city) of KL. This burger was delish, and the photo doesn’t do it any justice but perhaps you can imagine the great ambiance it has. Great flavours and proof that you don’t need a slab of cheese to make a burger taste gr8!

It’s also a lovely location even though the outside dinning faces the main road you forget that it does because they’ve enclosed the entire area with lots of plants and lights to block out the sound and visuals of the road and max on the ambiance. #veganisnotscary

RM40.28 (inc SST). Takeaway, ordered via orderu.

So when Tindle came to Malaysia, I wanted to

see what the Singaporeans on this app were raving about. Most of the restaurants that served this dish was a little inconvenient for me to get to (eg. KL Hilton), but BSC, or Bukit Damansara? Yeap, I can consider that.

Had quite an adventure trying to get a hold of this burger. I checked the delivery apps (like Grabfood and FoodPanda), don't see the burger there. On their facebook page they had advertised this burger, with their own app. Checked there, burger wasn't on it too.

Oh no, I thought, maybe it might have been discontinued due to low demand. Messaged them and was reassured that the burger was still available.

Today's a public holiday in Malaysia, so I thought I do something insane and cycle from home to BSC (~1hr, had to get off and walk several times because of all the hills on this route).

Arrived, and saw a long queue despite how early it was. Overheard them telling people that wait times were like 45 min, and there's no bookings available. So I went to the supermarket nearby to kill time (really great range of vegan products there, but also eye-wateringly expensive. As expected for an 'atas' (posh) supermarket. But until the vegan products reach closer to price parity with non-vegan products, you are not going to see people switching over to these products).

Oh right... back to the restaurant. 45 min later I went back and saw that the queue was just as bad as before. I looked up orderu, and it looked like my message had borne results; the Kerabu burger is on the app.

I scouted out a nearby park where I could discretely eat the burger and came back 30 min later... my order hadn't been processed yet. But after that it wasn't a great wait, and I finally got my hands on the burger.

So, the actual food review:

With the first bite, you get a whiff of the malay herbs and spices that you would expect in a kerabu, though this kinda faded away by the time I reached the end of the burger.

The chips were great when they were fresh, but extremely dry without a sauce. And I only had half a bottle of water left from cycling. I thought, "man, I would kill for some ketchup". But in some sort of apparent foresight, I had bought a bottle of the Hellman's vegan mayonaise while I was at that 'atas' supermarket #forthedollar. So I had a condiment to go with it.

While trying to judge the texture of the patty, I found that the crispy crumb coating kinda made it difficult to notice. At first I thought, that seems like a waste to cover the texture of the 'meat', because I would occasionally get bites of that were pretty much the texture of a malay-style fried chicken thigh (same bite, same tear). But when I started running out of coating, some of the 'meat' also had a more spongey texture closer to other mock meat.

Maybe it was the circumstance I was in, or maybe because they intended this order for takeaway, but I found the burger a little dry, and could use more sauce.

With the spices and sauce, I felt it could use a little more 'oomph' to bring it closer to the malay-taste they were after, and maybe a little sweetness would have been good for it.

But I have sated my curiousity about Tindle, and I have a new flag to add to my collection (I got the Harvest Gourmet one from burgerlab last time).

I was invited to @tindlefoods tasting event in mid of October before it served in

some of the restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, unfortunately I wasn’t in town so I couldn’t make it. After they announced where we could find restaurants that served TiNDLE plant-based chicken, I have visited @myhuckleberrykl first, among the list.

This Kerabu Burger 🍔 is 100% vegan with ridiculously good plant-based chicken from @tindlefoods seasoned in Asian mixed herbs, vegan fish sauce, vegan mayonnaise and spicy Asian slaw, served with fries. The combination is good, the patty tasted like Thai fish cake (not sure is there any kaffir lime leaves), and real spicy too (there are chilli padi inside!!). The texture is on point too 👍🏻 .
