Hojicha Cake

I have a massive backlog of reviews but when I recently heard that Hvala Craig is no longer fully vegan I had to post this. It was such a delightful blend of light sponge and bittersweet houjicha-infused cream in this generous slice of cake - so sad to hear this isn't available at what used to be the only all-vegan Hvala branch any more.

Very rich hojicha cake. Not that it isn’t good but their tarts are super good. Can’t wait to be back for more tart goodness. 🤓

Didn’t even realise the entire shop is vegan until we went down. I believe this is the only brunch that is completely vegan. The cake is fluffy and the cream is rich but not too thick. I think people who love hojicha will enjoy this #veganisnotscary

We ordered their houjicha cake to try as my sis raved highly about their houjicha. In my opinion, this pales in comparison as compared to their goma cake as I felt a pretty weird aftertaste in the cream itself. I had enjoyed this on a previous occasion so it might just be that day. The texture of this cake is similar to their goma cake which is still acceptable for me!

I find this a little bit sweet and not so toasty. It tasted more like the usual matcha cake.
