The menu here is enormous so the decision fatigue was real, was happy with this choice though. The restaurant has an authentic Chinese feel, albeit a little shambolic with boxes of stock and clutter laying around in the dining area. Tofu and mushrooms in a rich umami broth served in a clay pot. Was labelled “numb and spicy” (guessing it contains Sichuan peppercorns which have that numbing effect), but wasn’t overbearingly spicy. My partner loves heat so added extra chilli oil from the table. Very tasty! This was $22.80 and went nicely with a side of steamed rice. #claypot #tofu #melbourne
Tasty mushroom and tofu in thick, syrupy sauce served piping hot. Very solid dish, feels very traditionally Chinese. As such, I think it’s a little boring; the flavours are overwhelming and uniform, so I would recommend having this with other dishes, even if you were to eat it with rice. I really enjoyed the flavours and the firm, wrinkly braised tofu alongside the soft, smooth mushrooms. Could’ve been a little spicier.
