Cozy restaurant near Nara station and park.
They offer a lunch set menu:
- starters: mix of pickled veggies, salad with homemade dressing, a veggie fried roll, green beans and a sort of fermented "cheese" made from fermented sake byproduct (unfortunately I cannot remember the name)
- mains: rice, miso soup (probably the tastiest I've ever had), shredded tofu and veggies, steamed soy meat, assorted vegetables and a dumpling
- dessert: matcha ice cream 
Overall a great meal, healthy and tasty, and you can really feel that everything was prepared and presented with care. Portion sizes are perhaps on the smaller size, but perfectly fine for a stop during a day trip.

Naramachi Vegan Nabi ならまちヴィーガン 菜美

We went here for lunch, they offer a fixed menu with hotpot and ice cream as dessert. The "à la carte" menu is only for dinner.
The hotpot was fantastic - it had tofu, noodles, mushrooms and mized veggies which were super fresh and tasty. They also offer home made miso paste, yuzu vinegar and chili flakes if you wish to spice up your broth.
The yuzu ice cream at the end was also very tasty and the lady running the place was lovely.
Absolutely recommended if you're in the area. 
PS the place is super tiny (5 or 6 seats), so it might be that you have to wait a bit.

Hotpot

玄米だし茶漬け 虹屋 nijiya VEGAN FARM

Non-vegan Okonomiyaki and Teppanyaki restaurant that has a couple vegan options on the menu. 
We had the okonomiyaki with soy meat, which was good but nothing to write home about. The place has a cool vibe (you have your own stove at your table where you can cook your food / keep it warm), however the wait to get in was super long (more than 1h) since it is apparently very popular and in a lovely location in old Kyoto.
This is not really their fault but made our experience way worse. Personally I found it overhyped, food was indeed good but not worth the wait. I wouldn't recommend unless you're lucky enough to find a short line outside.

Soy Meat Okonomiyaki

A novelty by Planted that replicates Asian-style sweet and sour duck - it is indeed quite sweet, so it's probably better suited for Asian recipes.
I cooked it with several spices (bay leaves, cinnamon, anise, chili), leeks and red peppers, and then braised it in beer for about 1hr - replicating a Chinese recipe that I found online. Another positive note is that it doesn't fall apart when cooked for a long time.
The nutritional values are really good as well.
If you used to like duck I definitely suggest it, and I will be adding it to my meal rotation.

Duck Asian Style

Great salmon fillet alternative - both taste and texture are very realistic. 
It is made out of wheat flour, so not suitable for those intolerant to gluten. 
I seared it on a pan with vegan butter, salt and pepper and chives and turned out great. 
Nutritional values are good as it's not too calorie-dense, relatively low in fats and rich in proteins (15%).
The only word of caution is that it breaks quite easily so it has to be handled with care.
All in all very versatile and easy to prepare, so I recommend it.

It is made out of wheat flour, so not suitable for those intolerant to gluten. 
I seared it on a pan with vegan butter, salt and pepper and chives and turned out great. 
Nutritional values are good as it's not too calorie-dense, relatively low in fats and rich in proteins (15%).
The only word of caution is that it breaks quite easily so it has to be handled with care.
All in all very versatile and easy to prepare, so I recommend it.

Really good canned tuna substitute. The taste is really close to real tuna and I really liked the fact that it's preserved in olive oil.  
Personally I find Vuna a little bit better in taste, however this one is much more affordable and all in all a really solid option.
