Different flavors to choose from - I really like black sesame so that's what I ordered and it was a great choice, not too sweet but sweet enough to balance the flavor of the tea. I first tried this cake during a tea ceremony in Hangzhou. Mung beans are a staple of Chinese sweets, the beans are boiled or steamed and mashed into a smooth paste, the texture can be more waxy or almost powdery and they are often layered with red bean paste, date paste, peanut or sesame. The one I ordered at Pure Vegan also had goji berries.

An AMAZING vegan restaurant! Super delicious food, kind staff, beautiful views. I went here on my last night in Shanghai, and I'm so glad I did, as it was probably my favourite restaurant in the city. The windows look out onto a balcony with a view of the Shanghai skyline, which looked incredible at night. You could walk out there, too, and take in the view. The menu was all in Chinese, and the staff didn't speak much English, but we made do through a translate app, and they were very friendly - even asking if I'd found them through Happycow (I guess that's how lots of vegan tourists find them!) The main course I went for was the #lionsmanemushroom pizza, which did not disappoint - rich and creamy white sauce, delicious mushrooms, tomatoes and basil. The size was perfect for an individual. Our final sensational taste at this excellent Shanghai restaurant was this exquisite, light and creamy blend of mango and lemon, plant-based milk and a medley of fruit - blueberries, mango, some tiny red berries unknown to me, and toasted coconut all garnished with mint. All the delicate ingredients were allowed to Ping out. This dish was such a refreshing way to end the meal. The chefs here are so thoughtful in the preparation and presentation of the food. This wonderful #purevegan restaurant surpassed my expectations. Having had a sensational series of main course dishes to share, we couldn’t resist sampling a couple of desserts. This #charcoal yoghurt took our fancy. The ingredients were blended in just the right proportion to hit all the notes of flavour. It’s crowning glory has to be #purevegan on the fourth floor. We chose this white truffle pizza to combine with broth-like dishes to enjoy different textures. I wasn’t anticipating what original and flavourful layers of taste could be drawn out of a pizza! #morel and #matsutake mushrooms, #asparagus were layed in vegan cheese and baked to perfection in a light crusted pastry. The mushrooms were dressed in a black pepper sauce which dispensed with any blandness. The white truffle was delicate, somehow linking all the elements. I was excited to have a first time try of this adventurous sounding #bambooshoots dish - Burning Delicacy. The name suits the fiery broth that the bamboo shoots are cooked in. I have since read that freshly collected bamboo shoots have a good amount of thiamine, niacin, vitamin A, vitamin B6, and vitamin E [13, 14]. Also, bamboo shoot based diets are a rich source of dietary fibres so it’s a healthy dish as well as an exciting one. Other solid ingredients included #bamboofungus rich in protein, 21 kinds of amino acids, and rich in vitamin B group and vitamins A, D, E and various minerals, which can benefit the stomach and clear the intestines. Thumbs up to that. Another inclusion was a fungus native to China called elm ear. The variety of fungii in China is impressive and surprised me. I loved everything about this restaurant #purevegan The staff were calm, modest and attentive, but never rushed us. Every dish generated ‘mmms’ and ‘wows’. It’s a brand new restaurant and I really hope they get inundated with customers because it’s too good to miss. If I lived in Shanghai, this would be my go to restaurant. Pure Vegan by name and nature. Every dish we chose was delectable. On the menu they have grouped together drier dishes, broth-like dishes, baked and so on in order to make it easy to select a nice combination. These discs of potato were given a dusting of delicate spices, some with a bit of heat so there was a gentle hit as you munched. The dishes arrived in a steady flow that meant your palate was getting a new exciting taste sensation every few minutes. The layout of the restaurant is carefully thought through with attractive woven wicker screens dividing up the space. This vegan restaurant has just opened in One Museum Place a food extravaganza of a plaza in Shanghai. I was thrilled to try it out and really impressed by the experience. This beautifully prepared and presented #tempeh is sensational. It garnered praise from the whole family. The tempeh was placed on a banana leaf and topped with eryngium foetidum something I’ve never come across. It turns out to be long or wild coriander which is one of those greens that you just know is doing you good. Yunnan fragrant willow leaves, mint leaf, basil and wild chilli pepper are mixed with it to add to the vivid taste sensation. The hot kick of this dish works brilliantly with some of the milder dishes we chose. This is a restaurant I would recommend to people who might be sceptical about vegan dining.
