Dinner Buffet at Lotus at Berjaya — Steven Neoh's Review (Sep 22, 2025)

And another one bites the dust 🥲 I saw on my socials that these guys were closing at the end of the month, so I thought to make a final (and only second ever) trip to enjoy their generously gluttonous #buffet 😁

It's not actually as sad as it sounds. They occupy the 14th floor restaurant space of the Berjaya Hotel, which is owned by Vincent Tan, who in turn (when not destroying football clubs) devotes substantial time to advocating a meat-free lifestyle. The staff told us that the hotel decided to take the space back so that it could operate its own vegetarian restaurant 🥲

It would probably be a stretch to say that Lotus will be sorely missed, but it's a shame that this hasn't worked out as well as it could have for them. Some of the offerings are superb, especially those live station type stands (the #claypotrice with #fakemeat is a particular favourite of mine, and the #loklok isn't too bad either 🙂) But other stuff less so - the #sushi is mushy and forgettable, the #dimsum tastes half-hearted, and the entire desserts section less the #taufoofah and the #aiskacang (sans condensed milk) is offlimits if you don't consume eggs and/or dairy 🥺 I attach a bunch of photos; maybe 70% of the selection is vegan rather than ovo-lacto vegetarian.

Feels a bit mean to say this, but I'm excited to see what Berjaya has up their sleeve next 🙂
