Soy Meat Okonomiyaki at Gion Tanto — pattini's Review (May 18, 2025)

PSA: no need to visit this place during your trip to Kyoto.

Here’s why:
- There is always a long line at the entrance, if you arrive too late you might not even be able to queue because they put an end on it at around 19:30, since the restaurant closes at 21:30.
- It’s not a vegan restaurant, most of their dishes are made with cruel ingredients and they only offer a few vegan Okonomiyaki
- The Okonomiyaki are served on a hot stone / plate where they also cooked non-vegan food
- the Okonomiyaki simply aren’t that good

This version, made with soy meat, was very forgettable, with a nice texture yes but lacking flavor. As someone who waited over an hour for this mediocre meal, please let me tell you it’s not worth it. Bring your money somewhere else that cares more about animals, there are other vegan restaurants in Kyoto way more deserving than this place.
