Raley's

At Raley’s/Nob Hill, #refriedbeans are $1.98/can… unless you buy 3+, then it drops to $1.18 each (in line with Trader Joe’s prices.) Those are pretty significant savings of almost 40%. Luckily, there were 3 different animal-free varieties on offer (this one, and two fat-free flavors, all without lard.) Of course I picked up one of each. #cannedfood

These #beans were already pretty solid in the can, but I cooked them down to an extra thick, dry paste with almost no liquid left for use in my pupusas (sorry, no photos because it was my first attempt, and they came out super unphotogenic.) The beans are largely smooth and #creamy, but the mixture isn’t entirely blended — there were little chunks here and there. Though I added some of my own seasonings, it were already pretty delicious on its own — rich-tasting, not to mention a good source of fiber, protein, and iron. And it’s #lazyvegan-approved: the mixture is ready to eat or use straight from the can!

unejanie refried beans are definitely NOT photogenic 😂1 likeReply
kyu Yup, plus when I was making my pupusas, I over-hydrated the dough so it was a little fragile and the filling leaked out… not my finest work aesthetically, but they tasted fine! 1 likeReply
