I always enjoy Garofalo's variety of shapes and this tight spiral is one of my favorites! It was a great shape for a simple pasta salad with raw veggies and Italian dressing. It also worked well in a pasta bake with homemade marinara, peas, and Daiya mozzarella.
The name "gemelli" comes from the Italian word for twins (think Gemini). It looks like two strands twisted together, but it's actually one twisted around itself. It's most commonly used in pasta salads and casseroles (like what I did!)
