Torta Milanese at Guevara’s — Iszy's Review (May 12, 2023)

Guevara's is a beautiful pink counter-service restaurant and market. They have a location in Clinton Hill and Williamsburg. They have an amazing selection of pastries but also some refreshing sandwiches. This very fresh option was a great way to start the day! It consists of an eggplant cutlet, refried black beans, lots of purple cabbage slaw, avocado, cilantro, heirloom tomato, pickled cherry peppers, and mole mayo in a whole wheat kaiser roll. Cumin is the dominating spice flavor, which is a good balance with the raw veggies. I really enjoyed the breaded eggplant (I must be on an eggplant kick this trip). The black beans and cilantro were amazing, unconventional toppings. I also really loved the bread. It had a perfectly crusty outside, while still being soft enough to not hurt my mouth. If anything, I'd say there's just a bit too much cabbage. It made the sandwich a little more watery than I would have liked.
