Tortillería del barrio

For some reason I wanted a taco with wheat flour, I found these ones.
They are ok!
I prepared something similar to “taco al pastor” which is a Mexican dish with meat and a lot of condiments — In here I used mushrooms to mimic the meaty consistency, cilantro and onion (the mixture was already spicy and hot thanks to “guajillo” chili 🌶 so no need for an extra sauce)

#nerdyfact about these tortillas 🤓 :
The wheat flour tortillas are common in the north of Mexico, in the center and south we normally eat corn tortillas (in many colors 😅)
Because of the Tex-Mex cuisine the flour tortillas have been popular around the world 🌎 now we are used to eat it (but not as a routine) just with some special food like burritos 🌯 gringas or some type of tacos
Is important to read the ingredients 🧐 because for some reason some people use butter instead oil in the preparation 😔 in contrast with corn tortillas — the corn ones are oil-free which is much more healthier 😛

rikesh These are the type of tacos I usually eat over here Abi, with wheat flour. I’ve had proper corn tortillas at restaurants before and they’re just on another level of deliciousness! I had ‘maseca’ flour at home but i’ve not been brave enough to try them myself yet! 🌽🙈1 likeReply

aqualing Is that why it’s called “gringas”😏1 likeReply
abi88 Yes! I guess is because the flour are much more popular in USA and corn are much more common in the center / south 1 likeReply
