Have you ever had a positive food experience with a brand, got excited to try something else of theirs, found an item on sale, bought it, rushed home to enjoy it but then realized that it was only a sale item because you noticed (WAY too late) that its best before date was 12 days ago?
But you rationalize that even tho it may not be at its best, it still might be good because you once scored 23 points in a basketball game, and you weren't at your best, and you won.
Then you start thinking that maybe no one noticed how much you sucked in the game because you were looking good wearing new Jordan's that were color-coordinated with your uniform, and you figured perhaps you could do the same with these burgers - stack 'em, dress 'em up all nice with "cheese", tomatoes, cucumbers, vegan mayo, some sweet chilli sauce, and all would be golden.
But then your subconscious kicks in, starts messing with your head, insisting that this food is trash even tho there's no way to judge the taste because you've never had them before.
Has that ever happened to you?
Yeah, me neither. These sucked. (I think. ๐คท๐ฝโโ๏ธ)
abi88ย ๐คฃ almost similar story happened to me yesterday with a cashew butter - nice package clearly marked as vegan (which is suuuuper weird in Mexico) with a nice presentation and of course on sale ! I ran to my hubby to tell my discovery - he immediately looked at me at told me : you better check the expiration date โ I said oh no should be fine, then I read December 2020๐ข how is even possible that Walmart keeps trying to sell this item ๐ก โ then I chem brain started thinking well โ- is only cashew what could be wrong if it is well sealed โ then the hubby said NO is not look at that corner - the lid was a bit folded โ so no way ๐ข I went home thinking that I need to pay much more attention in that details ๐ฅบ I usually give one week on frozen products. One or two days with fresh products. Very well sealed products two weeks .. no matter what, the additives do the dirty work ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ 4 likesReply
stormmย Two weeks on sealed products, huh? Hmm, I might have to toss these out and treat this as a learning moment. Wait a sec - I'm burying the lead here - Walmart had an item that was 3+ months past best before date still in stock and on shelves? W๐ฎW!!! ๐คฆ๐พโโ๏ธ 1 likeReply
david-ย Use your senses to determine whether something is still good or has already gone bad! I've literally just had a fruit spread that expired in 2017 xD still super tasty2 likesReply
abi88ย Probably those things that only happen in Mexico ๐ค1 likeReply
stormmย Hmmm, how do you know that eating 2017 expired food didn't kill your taste buds tho? ๐ค ๐I've eaten jams, condiments, and some canned food years after their best before date, as long as they looked good. I'm playing mind games with myself on this one because this food is new to me. ๐Reply
