Review of Tofish and chips at Mono by nekocake

Have stopped by this place quite a few times while travelling in Glasgow. The gorgeous location and welcoming atmosphere won me over from my very first visit, so it’s always near the top of my list of places to go now when I’m in town. And while there are lots of really yummy things on their menu, I pretty much always just wind up getting the tofish.

I often use seaweed or seaweed stock in my own cooking when I’m trying to approximate seafood, as it’s such an effective way to give vegan food a fishy flavour. So I was really happy when I first bit into this and saw that they had coated the tofu in seaweed inside the batter. :) The texture of the tofu is also great - firm with a nice bite, and no mushiness at all. And while it’s been far too long since I had fish and chips for me to say how close an approximation it is, it’s easily delicious enough to stand on its own merits. The chips are good too! They don’t really taste like chip shop chips, and are more like the hand cut chips I make at home, but that’s just fine in my books. Recommended to vegans and non-vegans alike.
