Great tempura made with tofu skins. As all their tempura you order it by the piece and this kind was priced 350 ¥ per piece. It was extremely well fried and with a perfect texture. Served with its own sauce. You can order tempura by the piece, which means the 220 ¥ price is for each piece of asparagus. The portions are therefore tiny but this is good if you want full control of what gets in your tempura and in which quantities 😊 This asparagus tempura was perfectly fried and had a crunchy consistency. For our last night in Tokyo, we couldn’t help but go back to Sorano, probably the restaurant we loved the most during our Japan trip. This time we tried new dishes, including this cold silken tofu, which didn’t disappoint. It was definitely the best cold tofu we had throughout our stay, the texture was perfect and the seasoning top-notch. Price was only 550¥. This ice cream was a little bizarre but I did enjoy it! It was the first time for me trying a tofu flavored gelato and didn’t know what to expect: the flavor was unusual and not too sweet, it tasted like the good tofu I had during my dinner here and not too much like soy beans. It was pleasant but I guess I would have liked something more sugary. Your visit to Sorano would be worth it just if you order this dish: at the beginning of the dinner they will bring to your table a big stone stove with a square container on top of it, they will tell you not to touch it because it’s hot, you will go on with your dinner tasting the amazing dishes that you ordered while the organic soy milk cookes into tofu and at the end of your dinner you will finally taste it. For me it was the most amazing tofu texture I have ever experienced, it really does melt in your mouth like they say on the menu. It’s also accompanied with some salt, lime and sauce if you want to add some extra flavor. You can order this for 2 or 3 people, we ordered the 2-people portion which costed 1,320 ¥. I’m also adding some pictures of the venue to show how lovely it was: really nice Japanese style ambient. This was another great dish from Sorano, a restaurant in Shibuya with many vegan friendly and tofu-based options. These skewers were made from wheat gluten and they were super flavorful thanks to the miso and soy beans paste. They had a strange sticky consistency but it didn’t bother me. This dish embodies the concept of “fried to perfection”. It’s a deep fried silken tofu served with a special soup to dip it. The texture was unbelievable. This dish was so savory! I still dream about this! 10/10 would definitely recommend. Another amazing tofu dish from this charming and vegan-friendly restaurant in Shibuya. This was freshly made tofu skin served with soy sauce, wasabi and sudachi citrus juice. The consistency was amazing, it reminded me of “stracciatella” the filling of burrata which unfortunately it’s a cruel food. I also really loved the dipping sauce that accompanied this, it added to the tofu the right tanginess and made the final taste of the dish amazing. This was one of the most amazing tofu I have ever eaten! It was avocado flavored and it melted in my mouth. So delicate yet so flavorful, it was simply delicious. I really loved this restaurant: it was mainly tofu-focused however it is not a vegan nor vegetarian restaurant. It does have a lot of vegan options though. The ambience is also very nice, traditional Japanese style. My friend and I spontaneously visited this restaurant, and we're glad we did. We tried some of their vegan-friendly options - handmade tofu, fried tofu, dengaku, and tofu gelato.
