It’s probably been almost 2 years since I’ve been to Northstar Cafe. It used to be my favorite. They have some new menu items since I’ve last been in.
There are 4 locations in Columbus, and each has a completely different vibe and atmosphere. The Clintonville location is more reminiscent of a cafe with a cool patio, while Westerville is decorated in a cool, rich green vibe. Easton is larger and rustic with loft seating, while High Street (the location we ate) is more upscale and gives off a modern classy vibe, and they even have a bar.
I was sad to see they did away with my favorite menu item, The Buddha Bowl, and “Remixed” it as they say.
It's now a lighter bowl, and instead of a long grain brown rice base, it’s mostly lettuce now with a bit of brown rice. It comes with either chicken or tofu, I obviously chose the tofu. It now comes with dried beet and carrot strips (instead of fresh) broccoli and watermelon radishes. They did retain their signature peanut sauce, which I changed for an olive oil based balsamic.
They also raised their prices, this bowl is now $17. Honestly, it's way too expensive, especially since it’s mostly lettuce now and without the vegetables. It’s not a very good value. Taste, however, it’s always great. I do love salads, and they have great grilled tofu. Presentation wise, it’s definitely beautiful, and I love the pink watermelon radishes!
