For just $2 here you can get quite a generous portion of steamed long-grain rice for your pot. The really odd downside though is they give it to you in a plastic container despite eating in-house. Why not a ceramic bowl? When I was done I asked if they wash the containers but they said they just through them out. What a waste of plastic! And a perfectly good container too! Therefore, I took mine home to use as a water pot for painting since it has no lid.

I can see how this would probably be the least popular option here. The base is unfortunately very reliant on the customer loading up on meat to deliver the flavour, so when I loaded mine with mild, flavour absorbing ingredients like winter melon, lotus root, tofu, rice cakes, and tofu skin, what I got was a pretty bland and watery heap. Even with the more flavourful ingredients I added like spinach, broccoli, shiitake, and black fungus. Luckily, in these situations you can just go to town at the condiments bar to improve it, and that’s exactly what I did, though I overdid it on the fermented beancurd sauce and made it extremely salty. There’s a fine art to the condiment selection I must say. Anyway, I wouldn’t get this again when there’s the tasty spicy-numbing stir-fry pot for the same price.

This is one of my favourite stir-fry bases so far. Your ingredient selection returns to you magically transformed by the sweet sauce and skill of the chef, with a generous hunks of chilli. Never fear though, these pieces of chilli are sweet and succulent, not hot. I topped my choice of rice noodles, tofu noodles, shiitake mushrooms, lotus root, bok choi, spinach, and black wood-ear mushrooms with a mixture I can recommend from the plethora of condiments at the help-yourself bar: even more garlic (because I can’t get enough of it), chopped spring onions, chopped pickled veg, crispy fried peas, and chopped peanuts. It didn’t seem to be as oily as the Sichuan pepper numbing stir-fry base, but that may be due to the heavy-handedness of the chef that particular day. Delicious. Also, this huge meal was just $22!

Soooo oily but sooo delicious. Just be sure to give everything a toss in that oil because it sinks to the bottom quickly. I’m quite spice-tolerant so it wasn’t that spicy for me, even for the mouth-numbing Sichuan peppers, but it could be spicy for the uninitiated. The stir fry pots are all vegan apparently except for the X.O. Pot which has shellfish. Watch the weight though as the pots are $4 per 100g and more expensive than the soups, so my overshot portion cost me $30.

The deliciousness and value for money of this was insane! I got this enormous bowl that could have fed two people for just $24! I loaded it with three kinds of mushrooms, broccoli and boy choi, rice noodles, tapioca noodles, taro sticks, tofu skin, fried tofu sticks, and topped it with red fermented tofu, sesame paste, garlic, peanuts, green onion, and fried peas. Needless to say, I was absolutely bursting at the seams trying to finish this. All of the ingredients are kept neatly organised and clearly labelled, with a really wide variety of mushroom, vegetable, and tofu options. Just ask for the vegetarian version of the tomato soup base and you’re good to go.
