And the good news that I teased in my previous review: as part of their foray into non-vegan offerings, they have also new vegan stuff, like this #ouzi rice thing 😋 And like with most other things that they do, it's a real hit! The Arabic #bread pocket was fragrant without being overbearing, allowing the spiced #rice and the #tofu and the deliciously light #garlicsauce to take centre stage 🙂 This place is so supper-able, I'm thankful I don't live in Penang or I'd be about 10 kilograms closer to a cardiac arrest 😬

I have good news and bad news. Let's start with the bad: this restaurant has undergone a name change. It is now just Falafel Penang. The second picture tells you why: they have decided to introduce dairy items onto their menu 😢 Before you pile in on them, consider for a moment that businesses really don't do much more than reflect the demand that they perceive. As I always say, the biggest problem with capitalism are the consumers. The same way that the biggest issue with democracy is the stupidity of voters. But I digress 😐 These #drumsticks were gloriously greasy (and #sweetdreamsaremadeofgrease 😊), their crispy exterior giving way to a juicy, tender exterior that didn't quite scream #chicken but then also didn't at all have chickens scream 😏 The #veganmayo dip on the side was delicious and well spiced - until you tell the non-vegans that it's dairy-free, at which point it stops being anything good 🤷‍♂️

I love their deep-fried falafel based creations, so I think I'll go back to that next time, they really can't do #pizza 🥲 This one had a crust that felt reminiscent of something gluten-free and/or frozen (neither is a compliment, coming from me 😏), even though I imagine it was freshly made. The ingredients were okay, the #cheeze wasn't too pungent or astringent, even if it didn't do much to help the ingredients stay on top of each slice. There was some #barbecue type sweet sauce, as well as #fakemeat and #onion. But nothing to really write home about 😐 Flavour went south once the pizza cooled down. RM25 and the portion size was just right (maybe erring slightly on the large side) for one person

I come here every time I'm in Penang, and this frequency means that regular menu items are valuable #forthedollar currency. So when there's something on the seasonal specials menu, I pounce 😛 Like this #cauliflower platter, which consisted of their usual #hummus and #beetroot something alongside a #salad and the promised florets, covered in a light #spicy batter and then dressed up in the deep fryer 🤤🤤🤤🤤 #sweetdreamsaremadeofgrease till we meet again 🥰

The notion of ordering #juice here is just a bit ludicrous, I know. You're so close to Love Lane and all the shenanigans there, why have something so squeaky clean? 🥹 Clearly @dafnelately takes the same view; don't know how many visits she's made and still no other juice review 😏 I'm increasingly finding #watermelon at the top of my list when it comes to juice (or anything #freshfruit really), and this was fully in line with what I expected. Sweet, juicy, fresh, joyful 🙂

Finally a weapon fit for me to wield 😏 Even if the only damage it does is to my weighing scale and self esteem 😮‍💨 Nothing comes better at 2am though! What exactly is a #falafel bazooka? Well apparently it’s just a regular #falafelwrap but the #falafels are somehow on the thicc’r side of the spectrum. Absolutely massive, them. Vegan #chicken in a wrap! Sure as hell beats an omni’s idea of pigs in a blanket — Not the cosy cuddled kind 🤬 #govegan #veganfortheanimals I asked a year back to assert that the #veganchicken they use is indeed #eggfree but I’ve since forgotten what brand they use 😵 I’d ask again but so far they’ve been very on point with the #vword 👏 This is in my opinion far more worth your buck than the falafel wrap https://www.abillion.com/dishes/vegetarian-vegan-falafel-falafel-wrap-10377974 🧆 because you seem to get far more filling! If for some reason you’re inclined to have #falafel with #hummus, #toum, or #muhammara like a normal person this set’s for you 🧆 Compared to the “falafel pieces” meal https://www.abillion.com/dishes/vegetarian-vegan-falafel-falafel-pieces-10369808 you get 7 pieces instead of 9 but with it an added #salad, however basic 🥗 You do seem to get your money’s worth in their plastic #takeout boxes compared to when I use my smaller stojo #ecotakeout boxes oddly 🧐 That said, in a year they haven’t yet jacked the price!
