Attempted to find a good vegan bento set, close to the one I had in Japan.
First picture, as served. Second image, as advertised.
I didn’t enjoy the sauce on the vegan maki—it was overwhelming. The creamy, sour taste was overpowering, and I couldn’t finish it. While others may like it, I personally found it too much. That said, it was as advertised in the picture.
However, the salad was not as advertised. The menu picture showed radish, but what I received was cheap cabbage with corn and more sauce on it. The tempura was overly deep-fried and excessively oily.
I was so confused why the dessert had more sauce on it and cheap sprinkles.
I understand that vegan food tends to be on the pricier side, especially for a good cause, but I was disappointed in the quality of the food. It felt mass-produced and lacked care in its preparation.
This is a far cry from the last Shojin Ryori I had in Japan. It didn’t taste authentic; instead, it came across as rationed food marketed as healthy.
At 29 SGD (before GST), this was not worth the price.
Unfortunately, I won’t be coming back.
