This really wasn’t for me, an impulse buy that i regretted. In general I like the use of #jackfruit in foods. Here, however, the gravy was a bit intense for me, and masked everything else. I put it down to a personal preference though, as it is rated highly by everyone else. I also found the name quite odd for a jackfruit pie, so read a bit more: turns out the Mooless Moo was a plant-based version to their Moo Pie? i imagine they’re trying to be cute, but all it did was remind me of the infamous ‘everything but the Moo’ slogan, our reminder of how the animal industry exploits as much as they possibly can from the animals, that no part of an animal is left unexploited. In this instance, Pieminister found a way to appropriate the Moo: because it’s not enough to rob someone of their lives, we’re robbing their voice as well. yikes, i got a little carried away, i do beg your pardon #bitteraftertaste #grumblepie… Anyways, it’s a vegan-friendly version of their steak and ale pie. I can’t recommend them, but they have got the VeganSoc stamp of approval. Pieminister is a company from Bristol, UK. They have a few vg-friendly options it seems, but primarily focus on putting animals in pies. (gluten-free options available). B-Corp certified #bcorp #pie #everythingbutthemoo

I bought this pie to freeze for one of those days when you need to make supper fairly quickly. Once defrosted, it only takes 25 minutes to heat up in the oven. Just one recyclable cardboard box for packaging - big tick. It’s a substantial pie with hearty looking pastry encasing the jackfruit ‘steak’ cooked in craft ale and black pepper. It must be the #craftale that makes it taste rich and deeelish. There’s plenty of filling. I made mash potato and steamed courgette to go with it and felt very content. I suspect jackfruit is an acquired taste for some, but I’d recommend this pie as an induction if you’ve never tried jackfruit but want to. There’s a nutritional benefit to giving it a go because it is rich in #antioxidants. #carotenoids, and the pigments that give jackfruit its yellow color, are high in vitamin A. Pieminister are a B corp company which means they have a commitment to high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. #govegan #jackfruit #veganpie #veganisnotscary #abillionlove
