Organic Original Young Jackfruit

This week, we added a flight of tacos to our menu. Honestly, this is exactly the kind of thing I love to order when I am eating out—like a little sampler plate, tapas-style, instead of just one big dish. One of the three tacos was a corn tortilla stuffed with BBQ jackfruit, cabbage slaw, and spicy candied jalapeños. This was a good brand of jackfruit with nice, chunky pieces that shredded perfectly. I’m not a huge fan of jackfruit in general but saw this great recipe for vegan tuna salad I wanted to try. This canned jackfruit has a decent shelf life and it is good to have on hand to make a good vegan chicken salad. #jackfruit

wow wow i’m so shocked at how great jackfruit was in tinga! it was very easy to prepare and shred. it looks just like the shredded chicken in traditional tinga. it doesn’t have an odd taste and it comes salted. it’s juicy and even the seeds are good. it felt just like real tinga. if you miss tinga you NEED to try making it with jackfruit.

I used this with my favorite bbq sauce as a “pulled meat” alternative. Good texture, kids did not like it. I ate it for a few days for my lunch. Definitely add some other veggies for some additional flavor.
