Organic Baked Tofu - Teriyaki

I am a #tofulover so I was excited to try this teriyaki flavored tofu from Trader Joe’s. It’s convenient because it’s already seasoned and you don’t have to press it. I tossed it with some oil and cornstarch and baked it in the oven. The flavor was very nice as well as the texture. I would definitely buy this again. #tofu #traderjoes

Very convenient as it’s ready to eat. I didn’t like the flavour that much, it’s more soy sauce flavour than teriyaki. Texture is great though!

I have the same issue with most of the ready-to-eat baked #tofu products I’ve tried, and this one was no exception: I was satisfied with its hearty, firm texture but felt massively let down by the bland, watery marinade and how poorly it penetrated into the dense tofu. Although the nutrition label suggests a not-insubstantial amount of sodium in each piece, it sure didn’t taste that way, and I engaged in a lot of creative marinade-mixing to come up with something flavorful enough to enjoy and serve with pride. The problem wasn’t the tofu specifically — I can imagine a range of meals with this as my basic starting point — it’s that when the label advertises teriyaki, I expect teriyaki. Not terrible for $3.99, but I’ll stick with Trader Joe’s unflavored #soy products going forward.

Always a perennial favorite, this tofu brings body and a hint of protein power to any dish it graces. My personal favorite is to add it to buckwheat noodles with a Chinese inspired sauce for a slurpably tasty weeknight meal. But would be equally good in non Asian inspired dishes as the teriyaki flavor is super mild.
