The mysterious vegan fairy who sometimes leaves really novel plant-based snacks in my office’s break room blessed us with a couple of these #organic and #glutenfree #oatmeal cups a while back. I’ve always enjoyed green-tea-flavored treats, and after reading the founder’s blurb on the back of the cup, I was very intrigued. #matchalover It’s a promising idea to create hot #breakfast cereal modeled on beloved Asian desserts — but how would it taste? As it turns out, not amazing. There wasn’t much in the way of #matcha flavor (granted, I am still slightly sick, but I think my sense of taste is more or less intact.) It had the scent of #coconut (understandable) and, oddly enough, Chinese red dates, which definitely aren’t one of the ingredients. I appreciated the inclusion of whole flaxseed and hemp seed; less so the use of both erythritol and stevia. [Edit: as of March 2023, the product has been reformulated, so the sugar substitutes are being phased out. The new stuff is sweetened with organic cane sugar.] My oatmeal ended up pretty thick, so I added a little over a tablespoon of additional water for a creamier consistency. This is a super minute detail, but I would have liked the water fill line embossed on the inside of the cup for easier measurement. I think Yishi has a strong concept here, but it could use some tweaks. For this recipe, I would say MORE MATCHA. I checked online, and the individual cups are between $3 and $4, so they’re a little outside my price range (though they apparently donate 10% of profits to unnamed charities.) Still, I can see their value as a convenient and highly portable snack/light meal, and I wish them continued success!

Great instant oatmeal. I love all the fun brands this company has to offer and how they make oatmeal type for relaxation, focus, or other purposes.
One of the most interesting oatmeal flavors, and I’m enjoying it. Love that it includes hemp and flax seeds. #uplandspeak
