This was a very interesting taste for me. The smokiness came through quite a bit, so on its own I didn’t like it much. But mixed in a salad it was great! #tofu #veganprotein #smokedtofu
I got lucky with this - love a smoked flavour and 50% off original price of R66 😁 Chopped half of it into cubes, popped it into the air fryer and voila! tofu croutons for my salad (added some hummus as well) - Delicious! Going to scramble the other half for dinner tomorrow - looking forward 😋
I really like this tofu - the texture (not too firm, not too soft) makes it versatile, it can be cut into cubes or slices to fry / cook / bake with, but it can also easily be scrambled in a pan or even blended as a base for dressings. Example shown here ➡️: slightly fried in a coat of nutritional yeast, paprika & salt on a sandwich 😋 For a “smoked tofu” it has very little “smoky taste” - in a dish with strong flavours it can work in its pure form, otherwise I would say it needs seasoning.
If you’re from Cape Town you’d know what is ‘sout vis’ and this reminded me exactly of that. Marinade it in a low sodium soy sauce, cut into thick slices and air fry it for a few minutes. Perfect on crackers.
