Organic Mushroom Grow Kit

We've been meaning to try growing our own mushrooms for a long time, but for some reason just kept putting it off. Then this mother's Day, I got this mushroom growing kit as a gift from my furbabies. (Since we don't have kids, CJ always gets me a Mother's Day gift on behalf of our little furry family.) 🐶😸 We chose the oyster mushrooms because they are very easy and quick to grow. We started on mother's Day and we harvested exactly 10 days later. This was a really fascinating process to watch, especially because once they begin to grow they double in size every day. So every time we looked at them they were significantly larger! A lot of these kits can grow two or three rounds of mushrooms. I don't know about that yet but we'll see. Once you're done growing the mushrooms you can compost them so nothing is wasted. We ended up making fajitas with them which were delicious, but unfortunately I didn't take any pictures. One of the things I really enjoy about oyster mushrooms is that if you fry them up in a little bit of olive oil, they get nice and crispy. Another great thing about the company Back To The Roots is that if you take a picture of your mushrooms and post it, they donate a mushroom growing kit to a school of your choice. #oystermushroom #mushroomlover #organic #fresh

This kit makes it easy to grow a big mess of mushrooms in your own house. You just soak the spore-filled log overnight and then spray it with water twice daily until they are big enough to be full grown, about a week or so. You can't wait too long-- I forgot to take a picture of the mushrooms before picking them, when each cap was about the size of a quarter. I sauteed them using schwarma spices and served them over a Right Rice-tomato mixture. So good! Supposedly the log will produce a second batch of shrooms, so I'm going to test that theory this weekend.
