I made one final trip in before they closed down for good at the end of last month 😥 According to the staff, the management simply grew tired of running an F&B operation, but I suspect they haven't been profitable for a few years 😐 Their food is pretty good though, such as this #carrotcake which had a really fragrant #wokhei as well as the delicious taste of char 😋 Although it was a little light on ingredients because you have to opt out of the egg, and vegetables don't count 😛 What's probably done for them are the high prices, supposedly for things which are "healthier" and more organic 🧐

I have to begin on a rather sad note. Simply Good Food is closing its doors for good on the 31st of this month 😥 Back in the day before all this stuff was cool, they were one of my go-to places where I knew I wouldn't have to endlessly define the v-word. Over time they have been well and truly supplanted in my pecking order of favourites (and yes, I have seen this coming for some time because they're always empty), but seeing the confirmation of this on the socials still made me a little bit sad 😐 This #yam #friedrice was very typical of their approach. Heavy reliance on a single ingredient, and then a supporting cast of rather healthy ingredients. Not at all greasy, with the mushroom cubes providing a nice counterpoint to the texture of the yam. One of their better dishes, sad that I will never have this again ☹️

One of my favourite haunts in the Mont Kiara area, and they have just added some new stuff to their menu 🙂 Which also means that there's new stuff to review, so I can start coming again 😁 If their other additions are all of the same standard as these pretend #scallops, then I'm really looking forward to my next visit ☺️ They use #eryngii #mushrooms, scuff them up a bit so that they visually resemble scallops, and then roast them to this spectacular golden-brown hue. Then ladle some more #truffleoil on top to give them the earthiest of rich flavours 😋 These were marketed as a sharing plate (or a gluttonous #starter for those who are #notsharing 😉), but I could see this working as a main with a larger portion size and a bit more forethought on the sides/carbs 🙂

#tomyum egg #friedrice veganised per advert with no egg rather than a working substitute, no discount provided either 🙄 The serving is on the small side (a problem accentuated by their use of a yuuuuge plate 😅) so I was certainly #stillhungry by the end. A bigger issue was that this fundamentally didn't taste like Tom Yum fried rice. It was #spicy alright, but then the texture was way too soggy, and the ingredient choice (eschewing tofu or mushrooms for root vegetables and other #toohealthy things 😬) just left you asking "whyyy" 😪

I get it, it's #sichuan #mapotofu and you want it to be #spicy, but ladling the thing with whole #peppercorns? 😩 I don't mind the spice, but those things are so bitter 😖 The gravy was pretty flavourful and the chopped #shiitake #mushroom worked well, but that wasn't redemption enough ☹️ I also felt that a bit of fake mince wouldn't have been amiss 😐 #whiterice in the background is part of the deal. One of the few times that Simply Good Food has left me disappointed.

Ooh delicious 😋 You never know with this place, items on their menu veer between amazing and too healthy 😅 This #friedrice was a hit, the vegetarian #belacan smoky and rich, beautifully complemented by the #chilli and #garlic. As accoutrements the dish had #corn, #chickpea, #carrot, #okra, #cabbage, and some #poppadom pieces ☺️ Request for this without the egg obviously; unfortunately they won't replace it with something else so you are just going without 🙄 Still, appreciate the vegan labelling! #malaysianeats 🇲🇾
