Just thinking about this dish and writing a review about it brings a great big yawn to my face 🥱 红烧 anything can be great fun, especially #tofu because I think the flavour of the one and the texture of the other can be excellent complements, but here they decided not just to dial down the flavour, but to crowd out the good stuff with cheap nonsense like #cauliflower, #broccoli, #cabbage, and #snappeas 😒 Minimal #beancurd, with some #mushroom slices the only other source of protein. Loads of #whiterice. Not one of the better things that I've ordered from them 😥

Yep let's address the elephant in the room, that is egg that you see 😪 I don't know why they don't just use radio buttons for the choice between egg and no-egg. I followed their instructions to the letter, specifying in the remarks section that I didn't want any egg (2nd picture), and look what good that did 😒 The insult added to injury is that the egg added absolutely nothing whatsoever to the glorious flavour of this #yeemee dish. It had #wokhei, it had that beautiful umami quality, the #crispy #noodles dovetailed wonderfully with the other ingredients - #fishcake and #carrot and #cabbage and #oystermushroom 🥲 Just why 😩

Ooh this is so under the radar 😋 Literally everyone has a #yangzhou #friedrice these days, but can they make it this good? ☺️ This one doesn't just have #wokhei, they also use certain very flavourful ingredients to amplify the taste in the right places - the #soyfloss was a real hit! Even without egg, they can make such a delicious fried rice, I don't know why they still retain the egg as the default option (and don't provide a substitute if you ask that the egg be left out 🥺) There was a wealth of little chopped up ingredients - diced #carrot, #cabbage, #fakemeat, that sort of thing 🙂 RM13

I have no idea what Sukhumvit noodles are, especially not when one of Bangkok's nicest parts is supposedly being transplanted into a different city that I have considerably less affection for 😛 The Mandarin doesn't entirely make sense either - I've had the #singapore #hokkienmee many times before, and this tasted nothing like it 🤨 Thin and thick #noodles are combined and cooked in some kind of sauce, then vegan #fishballs, #beancurdskin, #mushroom #fakemeat, and #lard are added to the mix. Impressively flavourful, in fact 😋

Fun fact: did you know that rugby is known as #olive ball in Mandarin Chinese? Okay I digress, this was a really tasty #friedrice, swimming in grease and flavour and with just enough of a hint of the promised drupe 😋 Who says something needs to be deep-fried for me to claim that #sweetdreamsaremadeofgrease 😊 There are cuts of #fakemeat (#charsiew? 🤔) in this, along with bits and pieces of random vegetables (#cabbage #caixin for sure). A generous enough serving, and one that went nicely with some wasabi seaweed I had lying around in my cupboard 😉

This sounded a bit boring, and indeed so it turned out to be 😐 #luohanzhai and I will probably never jive, since given its saintly origins it is devoid of the grease, spice, and excitement that I live off 🥺 I don't even get alliums ☹️ Instead, the #whiterice is separated from the other goodness in a clever two-part container which I definitely see the utility in reusing. The other bit contained #cauliflower, #snappeas, #carrot, #ginger, #broccoli, #cabbage, #caixin, #blackfungus, and #beancurd both in the thicker #tofu form as well as in the thinner/skinnier #yuba form 🙂 Actually quite a rich mixture of stuff, although I still needed a healthy dose of chilli to send it down 😅

You know what, credit where credit is due, this was outstanding 🥰 For RM14.90 you get a generous serving of well cooked #whiterice, and an equally generous portion of #fakemeat #veganpork stir-fried in the most glorious #sweetandsour sauce that I can remember for some time 🤤 They also toss in some #cucumber #capsicum and #tomato to literally sweeten the deal, but my favourite accompaniment was the fiery, unexpectedly #spicy #chilli halves 😋 And to boot, this comes in a really handy container where they divide the wet from the dry to keep everything pristine. #bestpicks material! 💪 This is from the Shaun Shang stall inside the food court to which I have tagged this review 🙂

All round a pretty meh attempt, decent enough if you're hungry and just need to get food down your system (which applied to me on this day😅) but not something that will live long in the memory 😬 I fall into the camp that thinks even #beehoon needs a substantial amount of wok hei, and this didn't come remotely close 😥 What it did do, was offer a mad pile of #cabbage - who even eats that much cabbage?! 😛 The vegetarian #charsiew was dry and listless, and this was crying out for something spicy (which I duly added from the bank of condiments I keep at home for such contingencies). Solid but unspectacular #noodles. Actually from the Shaun Shang stall (tongue twister), which is inside the food court which I've tagged this review to 🙂 Oh you need to tell them you don't want egg for this dish, but their menu (even on GrabFood) is really good - you see upfront which have got eggs and/or dairy and you see which ones can be prepared without said eggs and/or dairy 🙂
