Murray Hillbilly is a fun treat on the way from the Jacksonville airport. There are great options for burgers, but I'm more drawn to the chickun sandwiches. I'm less inclined to have a beyond burger from a restaurant when there are other choices. The sauces really make the food here though, so I'm sure the burgers are great! The chickun seems to be made of soy curls. It's not a chicken patty, it's more shredded and in pieces. This sandwich has Carolina Tangy Gold sauce, howdy sauce, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and pepper. I think Carolina Gold sauce is a type of BBQ sauce. I really liked it! It was slightly sweet but had a nice flavor. Don't ask me what howdy sauce is; I have no idea! The slaw is made with their house-made slaw sauce then topped with special sauce. This is an option I would typically gravitate towards in warmer weather to cool down while eating a hot sandwich. Unfortunately like the mac n' cheeze, this was a bit bland. It tasted primarily of mayo, which I know is a key ingredient, but it could really use more vinegar to balance it out and bring some tanginess. It was also just a bit too sweet without that bite to balance it out. It's also quite a bummer that they use plastic utensils and disposable bowls. Also they don't have any free water. With your sandwich you can get fries or salad or upgrade to mac n' cheeze, slaw, or fried pickles. The mac n' cheeze is made with their house-made muenster cheeze sauce. I think it's so great that they made the cheeze themselves. And I don't think I've ever seen a vegan muenster! Unfortunately, it's just a bit bland. If I had nooch with me I would have dumped a bunch on. The color suggests that there isn't much (if any) in there to begin with! This is a nice classic option that packs some heat. The soy curls that they use for the chicken are juicy and were coated in flavorful buffalo sauce. Because of the loose nature of the soy curls, it's almost like a sloppy Joe. This is only the second time I've had shrimp of any kind! The first time was the firecracker shrimp from the Bloom Sushi Counter at X Market in Chicago. I absolutely loved that dish so when I saw this po'boy I thought I'd give it a try again. It seemed like it would be lighter than the other offerings here, and after a day of travel something light sounded best. These shrimp were much meatier and firmer than I was expecting. It kind of freaked me out because it really did look like shrimp and the texture is what I'd imagine the animal shrimp would be like! There wasn't really much of a seafood/fishy taste at all though. The breading on the shrimp was good and I enjoyed the bun and remoulade. The tomatoes weren't as fresh as I'd like, but overall it was a good po'boy. I've been to Jacksonville twice now and I've never been to one of their all vegan restaurants! I was excited to be brought here right after my flight. These pickles are deep fried in a batter and served with ranch. It tastes like the state fair! The batter was light, so they were surprisingly not too filling. I do wish the batter was seasoned more. The longer they sat the softer they got, so it would be pretty soggy if you got it to-go. I liked them with the ranch. It was more pickle than I was expecting, but very snackable.
