This bao bun by Van Hanh was just ok, especially when compared to the superb
bao buns I’ve tried at XLB Restaurant here in Portland. The presentation could have been better, as it was served in cellophane wrapping and tasted like it could have been steamed longer. The dough was a bit on the dry side, lacking that pillowy effect of other heavenly bao buns I’ve tried.
It is filled with tofu, mixed veggies, taro, beans, and vegan ham, and aside from my complaint about the buns dryness, the filling itself was tasty. I likely wouldn’t order this again, but since it’s just a $4 appetizer, it may be worth trying if you really want to.
