Shaanxi Cold Noodle Salad

This is a smorgasbord of refreshing flavours and interesting textures. The highlights for me were the flat, bumpy noodles - fun! - and the bean curd, which added a splash of protein. Not terribly flavourful but everything mixed together well to create a light but tasty impression.

This dish looked really delicious but was so extremely mouth numbing spicy that my friend and I couldn’t eat it. On the menu it says it comes with bean curd, king eryngii, yellow ear fungus, chilli & black vinegar dressing, kelp & mungbean noodles, cucumber, sprouted almonds, and mung beans. It sounds healthy but unfortunately we couldn’t eat it. We told the server and he asked if we are sensitive to spice because nobody ever said that before. We told him to try a bite and he refused. He didn’t offer to make us a new one or ask if we wanted anything else. A different member of staff brought us the bill and we noticed we had been charged for it. Only after we complained did they remove it from the bill. The 2nd server admitted that people the previous day had complained about its spicyness (with no indication on the menu) as well.
