The national star of #malaysianeats is that of #nasilemak 😛 This touristy spot brings a fun and grand #vegan #sharing #platter that still holds the #authentic essence of #malaysianfood but #plantbased 🤓 A fat lemak #rice takes center stage in a myriad of greasy, flavourful sides 😝 They give 2 different types #sambal approved by the lady herself @dafnelately 👍 so you know it’s #malaysianapproved 👏 There’s #chickpeas cooked in the #masakmerah 😝 Oh so mushy and sweet. The #rendang #tempeh also bring a sweeter sensation to the dish to go with the more savoury crispy nuts and #friedtempeh chips. Thus, providing a bit of bite to satisfy #teamcrunchy 😋 They even threw in a couple of samosa #quesadilla wraps in there for good measure 🤪 I think this was only the 2-person set as well 😮 It’s hard to believe as this RM49.90 worth was gargantuan to say the least!! A definite #bestpicks choice for me, despite never been acquainted with nasi lemak that much growing up 😝

It’s good to be back in Kuching 🐈 My parents treated me to this fantastic vegan lunch for my birthday 🎉, even if the men of the house didn’t end up eating anything vegan 🙄 #justomnivorethings My mom, an ex-vegetarian, was ecstatic over the presentation & taste! For real though, this is real #foodporn 😍 Going from 12 o’clock, we have 2 sambals. Sambal serai on the left iirc & sambal kantan on the right. Sambal serai would be the more zesty of the two, made from lemongrass 🌶 First to the right was a whole bunch of sliced tomatoes and cucumbers which I decidedly ignored for most of the meal 😛 #unhealthyvegans The real course starts at 5 o’clock with chickpeas masak merah 🌹 The name literally translates to “cooked red”. It’s a sweeter curry and it was the first time I had it with chickpeas; Not a bad combination honestly! Following that at 6 o’clock is #rendang #tempeh 🤤 A dish that proves that #coconutlover(s) are on the right side of history. I’ve never had a plant-based rendang that uses anything other than hericium mushrooms so this was a welcome change & in my opinion, better. It’s unique and offers something different from the perhaps more true to form meaty mushroom versions. Besides the rendang at 7 o’clock were a whole load of tempeh chips, sweet though they are, were probably a stand in for the traditional anchovies that #nasilemak is usually served it. The 9 o’clock side was a bit odd.. #samosa with some corn & lentil filling? Random much? It was pretty nice at least but I made the mistake of eating it before anything else so I was too full to eat too much 😭 At least I have lunch tomorrow planned though 🤭 Finally at 11 o’clock were a nasi lemak must, roasted peanuts 🥜 The whole platter was served in a handwoven rattan basket with an incredibly generous portion of mixed red rice 🍚 Even with help from my dad and my brother, we failed to finish up the platter for 2 🥴 so at RM49.9, it’s really worth it. Who says you can’t be vegan in smaller cities? #veganisnotscary #pbas2021 #supportlocal
