The unwoke police done made them rename this to “Nasi Tofu Geprek”, because is not have the ayam 🤷‍♀️ Their only competition is gone https://www.abillion.com/dishes/membawang-corner-sambal-gepuk-and-geprek-10234804 so I suppose this is at the moment my top recommendation for vegan #ayamgeprek 🐣 I really think they could’ve been a little less stingy with the #sambal, especially given the portion of protein, but I’m learning more and more that generally in East Malaysia and Indonesia, our portions of sambal are much bigger 🫢 At least this was adequately #spicy! The #tofu was battered and deep-fried in an interesting aromatic blend & came out honestly alright. I would’ve actually preferred a larger side of #tempeh instead 🫣 The soup though was great! Not pictured but it was a basic pepper soup. Perfect for the hangover I was having at the time 😵

Ordering as much as we did, even after having a dessert-esque pancake closer… it was unanimously voted to order this to add on 😂 Warning: the menu lists this as Nasi Tofu Geprek now 🤓 This is the first dish served up with the most plain-ish elements. I could’ve done with more moisture from such a dish but it was still delectable 😛 Nice rice. Fresh cucumber slices and cut cabbage on the side. The #deepfried tofu was done to a dark brown of a crisp 👌 Super savoury to go with the many blander elements. I didn’t try the sambal as it seemed too intimidating for my taste buds 🤣 I was told it was good though… RM19 was the cheapest in our entire receipt. I kind of see why 😅 It may be more worth your ringgit to go for the slightly pricier items 🥸

Eid Mubarak to everyone who is celebrating! 🎊🎉🤗💕 I've saved this review for today; #ayamgeprek is a classic dish from Indonesia, home to the world's largest Muslim population 🇮🇩 Specifically from Java, the original features battered #chicken with a sweet and spicy #sambal sauce 🌶️ This version uses #deepfried #tofu chunks (second image is a close-up) as the chicken, and combines them with two #spicy sambals (the green one is sweet and the red one is just brutal 🌶️😋😋😋). In addition, you get a few bits of #tempeh, some #cabbage shreds, and a choice of white or #brownrice (RM2 extra) topped off with some fried shallots. Ngl it's a bit oily (#sweetdreamsaremadeofgrease 😊), but so thoroughly enjoyable. Finally, shout-out for the eco-conscious packaging and clear product labelling including allergens 👍🙌 #indonesianfood #javanesefood

As prophecied yesterday I couldn't resist ordering this today ---> Nasi Ayam Geprek (less spicy on request, with just a tinyyyy dollop of sambal🤭) Dear vegans who can handle spicy food, please don't hold it against me 🤣 (the guy/girl from foodbae taking my order had already somewhat patronised me once when I insisted to have a non-spicy 'nasi ayam geprek' (🤫 warning: this might sound outrageous to some native Indonesians who grew up eating this popular dish with lots & lots of sambal) The "ayam geprek" was pretty delicious ⭐ amazingly deepfried to golden brown crunchiness.. they probably used tofu as the base (😏not gluten/seitan) Wanting to try their Nasi Lemak Fried Chicken next 🤪 but they told me the chick'n pieces used are exactly the same - only different condiments hehe As someone who pretty much despises sambal, the sambal that accompanied this dish was rather spectacular imo! Really satisfying 😛
