Back to our excellent, local, Indian vegetarian restaurant. Our first time trying this dish. Deeeliscious!
I had to look it up as, although I’ve had the good fortune to visit India many times, I’ve never had this dish there or here in the UK.
‘Dhokla is a savoury sponge dish that is native to the Indian state of Gujarat and parts of adjacent states, and is popular throughout the country. It is made with a fermented batter that is steamed to a cake-like consistency. The batter consists of a mixture of rice with the pulse Bengal gram, but has several variants with the gram replaced by chickpeas, pigeon peas, or urad beans.’
Jai Krishna’s version had a coating of dessicated coconut, very flavoursome and a side dish of very spicy mint sauce which went perfectly with the simplicity of the #dhokla
It’s a good dish to share. We had it as a starter but I think it would work well in combination with some curries too.
