Can't remember what I paid for this but it was a complete steal, nothing beats #cheapandcheerful in the north of Malaysia ☺️ This stall serves up #cendol (sticking to orthodox Malay spelling because I like orthodoxy, unlike whoever created the initial entry for this dish 🤪) in disposable plastic bowls to reduce service turnaround times; they share a small dining area with several other stalls serving (largely non-vegan) local fare, and diners share tables with strangers 😅 It's that kind of place But compensation as due is made directly to your #sweettooth 😊 The #redbeans are a fantastic support act, but the #santan #gulamelaka - especially as the shaved ice is in the transitional nether zone of mushiness between solid and liquid - steal the show 😊
This sit-down restaurant portion of the cendol Street was confusing since we were basically ignored and forgotten the entire time. The cendol is cheap and tastes good but most of the ice was melted and there was no exciting toppings. The street cart outside which has a huge queue every day looks a lot more impressive (after glancing at what people were getting in their bowls).
Penang teochew cendul with red bean and coconut milk. 😋
Honestly, is chendol ever really worth the calories? Maybe not, but when in Penang, you have to try this famous chendol. There's usually a line for it and they serve it up so fast - the Chinese guy serving it spoke Hindi in addition to Tamil, Malay, English, and Chinese so that was pretty cool!
I was so hyped to try this out and without a doubt, it was the best chendol I've ever had - sweet, milky and delicious 😋. It's a great experience for tourists too, queuing up for it and taking in the beautiful mural in the back! 😍 #penangvegan #chendol
