Ground Veggie Meatless Mix: Korean BBQ

Super easy, quick to cook and quite good. Good, tasty protein source. Will byut again.

I received this item on coupon as part of Sprouts’ short lived freebies program. I enjoy cooking with soy curls, chunks and TVP but have a specific method that I use. This package came with the seasoning already mixed into the TVP; I think it would work better if the seasoning came in a separate packet. This way, it would be easier to squeeze excess water from the TVP before frying. The seasoning could then be added whilst cooking and no seasoning would be lost. With the instructions and packaging as is, it was challenging to get the TVP to crisp up and the oil was absorbed moreso than crisping. (I used 2 TBSP instead of 3 as instructed, which still felt like too much.) The flavor was good and I think it would have been quite tasty if the TVP had been further browned and the seasoning added later. I think a product like this could be nice for folks who want to try TVP but haven’t before - but it could use some tweaking. Yummy! This shelf-stable vegan mix is so good. I just prepared it according to the directions and added chopped water chestnuts (not required but they add great crunch). I also topped it with Makoto Asian dressing, which I'm a bit obsessed about at the moment. (See my previous review.) But it's really good without it too. I happened to get this at Sprouts when it was on sale. Off-sale it's a bit on the expensive side. But it's worth the $$. And it's great to have something this good be shelf-stable.
