Honestly, I nearly retracted my order after seeing the actual dish being whipped up before my very eyes đź‘€. It looked... meh. But you know what won me over? Sesame oil. Yep, this aromatic condiment really elevated a dish that was more disproportionately tofu and canned button mushrooms than petai. Speaking of which this is my first time trying petai (also called 'stink bean') - it was less divisive than I thought, with a nice crunch and resembling miniature unripe avocadoes. This stall in Blk 724 Ang Mo Kio Central is a Chinese vegetarian one, so make sure to let them know you don't eat eggs.
