I picked up this bunch of ripe bananas for only $1.69 at Costco. The bunch weighed 3 pounds (price was $0.56 / pound). Maybe they were cheap because they were very ripe. I had no problem with the price or with their ripeness. My intent was to use the bananas immediately in baking anyways, so it was perfect timing. The riper, the better.

A few of the bananas were a little bruised, but that didn’t bother me. They still went into the cookies that I had baked (or intended to bake; I made raw strawberry cookie balls instead).

Incorporating bananas into baking dramatically shifts the nutritional value of a snack. My cookie balls were made with mashed bananas, oats, cinnamon, peanut butter, dried cranberries, and strawberry pieces. They were absolutely delicious and healthy.

Bananas are packed with nutrition. Bananas are a good source of several vitamins and minerals, especially potassium, vitamin B6, and vitamin C.
- A diet high in potassium can lower blood pressure in people with elevated levels and benefits heart health.
- Bananas are high in vitamin B6. One medium-sized banana can provide up to 33% of the Daily Value (DV) of this vitamin.

I usually buy bananas a couple times a month. I will certainly continue doing it because they’re not expensive and because they’re extremely healthy.
